Vaudeville Theatre in London’s West End
The original theatre on this site was designed by C J Phipps and opened on 16 April 1870. The theatre then closed on 7 November 1925 when the interior was completely reconstructed to designs by Robert Atkins – the auditorium was changed from a horseshoe shape to the current rectangle shape – reopening on 23 February 1926. Small wood-panelled foyer with ornate cream and gold ceiling.

Built by John Potter, a carpenter, on the site of the King’s Head Inn and the Gun Smith shop. December 29th opening night La Fille a la Mode, presented by His Grace The Duke of Montagu. Front of theatre has been completely restored to its original design in gold and cream. It’s stage curtain is considered one of the most beautiful in the world.

Theatre Royal Drury Lane
Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London’s West End
Built four times on the same site. The first building, 1663-1672. It was destroyed by fire on 25th January 1672; The second building, 1674-1791. Re-built by Sir Christopher Wren and opening on 26th March 1674 in the presence of King Charles II. It was demolished in 1791 because it was too small and out of date; The third building, 1794-1809. Designed by Henry Holland. Opened on 12th March 1794.This building burned down for the second time on 24th February 1809; The fourth and present building, 1812-? Designed by Benjamin Wyatt. Opened on 10th October 1812 with a performance of “Hamlet”.
